Our Philosophy
We acknowledge the traditional Walbunja land of the Yuin people. We respect their ongoing connection to land and waters and value the culture and histories of First Nations peoples.
We build strong partnerships with families and the community. Our service is an extension of each family, and we value the cultures, knowledge and individuality that families bring to our learning community.
Our learning environments encourage curiosity, independence and exploration. We recognise that children learn in different ways, so our programs are flexible and guided by children’s strengths, interests and needs.
We nurture a strong sense of belonging and wellbeing. Children are encouraged to make choices, share their ideas and influence their learning. Educators support children’s learning through play, intentional teaching, family input and community connections.
Children’s safety, wellbeing and rights are central to everything we do. We are committed to creating a culturally safe, inclusive and respectful environment where every child feels valued and protected. Families are encouraged to be involved in conversations and planning about children’s safety and wellbeing.
We ensure all educators are suitable, supported and committed to their roles through careful recruitment, professional learning and reflective practice. Maintaining a safe and supportive environment for children is our highest priority.
We value respectful relationships between educators and families. Our team brings diverse knowledge, experience and a shared passion for learning.
Our core values are respect, safety, diversity, equity, community and lifelong learning.

Educators adapt the routine, experiences, ideas and teaching strategies to promote equity and inclusion.
Educators use their knowledge of children, family, community and culture to guide the curriculum in conjunction with the EYLF and developmentally appropriate practice. Educators adapt the environment to appeal to the senses and allow for open-ended play opportunities.
This enables children to control the pace and extent of their own learning. We believe the best learning occurs when children’s interests are acknowledged and extended through play.
At SBELC we believe that all children have the right to their own identity.
Our goal is to create a community where children, families and early childhood educators work together to build and create a culture of caring, kindness and respect.
We aim to create a sense of belonging by honouring all cultures within our centre and embracing the wider community.

Our passionate educators are dedicated to providing inspiring learning environments that encourage independence, develop confidence and respect while guiding and nurturing each child’s individual development.

At SBELC we are passionate about sustainability.
We believe that children’s education should help them to develop an understanding and respect for the environment in which they live in, to protect it and live peacefully within it.
We endeavour to embed sustainability into everyday practices with the children and families. We are committed to broadening our knowledge and creating a more positive impact on our environment.
